Frequently asked questions

Find answers to common questions about volunteering with the Kettle Campaign.
  • What is the Christmas Kettle Campaign?

The Salvation Army Christmas Kettle Campaign is our largest fundraising drive of the year and one of Canada’s largest and most recognizable annual charitable events. With more than 2,000 kettle locations across Canada, the kettle not only raises critical funds but boosts the Army’s visibility and promotes awareness.

Since 1903, we have seen kettle campaign donations transform the lives of millions of Canadians, including helping them find a way out of poverty permanently.

  • How are the funds used?

Funds raised through Christmas kettles, together with other sources of funds, help provide direct, compassionate, hands-on service to 1.9 million vulnerable people each year in Canada. Each kettle location is organized and managed by a local Salvation Army unit. The funds raised stay in the community in which they were donated.

    How you can help?

    Time

Your time is one of the most valuable donations we can receive. Without the support of our volunteers, we couldn’t provide the many programs and services our clients depend on. With many positions available, for people from all walks of life, there is always a way you can help us in our efforts to spread hope in our community.

Connection Point is also a hub where Volunteers can receive required volunteer hours for school and court assigned situations upon approval.

    Connect Café
Our volunteers are the backbone of Connect Café, serving sandwiches and coffee, making connections and building community. Join us feeding bellies and hearts.
    Play Café
While caregivers mingle and children play, our volunteers keep the snacks and coffee flowing, mingle with caregivers and aid in supervision of children as they play and explore the world around them.
    Special events
Throughout the year we host various events that rely on our volunteers to operate, like food drives to replenish the pantry, community barbeques, monthly men’s breakfasts, monthly food orders and more.
If you are interested in any of these volunteer opportunities, or would like to learn more about volunteering with The Salvation Army Connection Point Church and Resource Centre, don’t hesitate to drop into our resource centre during operating hours or reach out directly to Pat Humble at pat.humble@salvationarmy.ca or 250-216-7163.

    Food

    Food Room
Feeding our community, one grocery bag at a time. Volunteers work alongside our caseworkers packing food hampers and organizing our food pantry.
    Bread
Twice weekly Cobs Bread generously donates bread and baked goods to our centre. Volunteers sort and separate the various baked goods to be put on the free bread shelf, or to be served as snacks during resource centre hours.
    Second Harvest
We receive donations of pre-packaged ready-to-eat food from local businesses, and it is up to our volunteers to sort and separate these snacks to be served to clients during resource centre hours.

    Christmas

    Christmas Kettles
Christmas time brings the biggest fundraiser of the year for The Salvation Army, the Christmas Kettle Campaign. Each year volunteers come together, jingle bells and spread Christmas cheer while collecting donations which go towards funding all the programs here at Connection Point, including programs like our Food Pantry, Life Skills with Sally Anne, Play Café and Connect Café and so many more.
    Christmas Hampers
It wouldn’t be Christmas without the gift of giving. Every year we host the Christmas Toy Shop where volunteers help lead parents through the Toy Shop to collect gifts for their children.
